Jayantha Dhanapala is the Under-Secretary General for Disarmament Affairs at the United Nations. He served as President of the 1995 Nonproliferation Treaty Review and Extension Conference. He has also served as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva and the United States, worked as Director of the Geneva-based United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), and held the position of diplomat-in-residence at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
